Couple identified in Valentine’s Day shooting

Authorities have identified two people involved in a domestic-related incident on Valentine’s Day that left one person dead and another in the hospital.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Tuesday morning that Matthew M. Scott, 32, died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His wife, Rachael Scott, 31, was shot as well and is currently in ICU at UT Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said a call came in just after midnight Sunday about a possible shooting around the 9000 block of Gulf Park Drive. Deputies found two people with gunshot wounds at the residence.

Medical personnel tried to revive Matthew Scott, but were unsuccessful, according to a press release.

Rachael Scott was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
