Friends and family of a 16-year-old Austin East High School student who was shot and killed as he was leaving school in his car are seeking help from the community in helping find who killed the teen.
The family has identified the boy as Stanley Freeman Jr. and have set up a Go Fund Me account.
“Because this senseless tragedy happened unexpectedly, we are asking the community to help give Stanley the home going celebration that he deserves as well as the means to offer a reward for information,” the Go Fund Me post said. “We demand justice.”
The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. Friday. Knoxville Police reported they heard of a shots fired call on Tarleton Avenue in East Knoxville.
When they arrived, they heard of a nearby crash on Wilson Avenue.
They found a car crashed on the street with Freeman inside, shot.
Emergency personnel tried to save Freeman, but were unsuccessful.
“Stanley passed away alone,” the post reads. “No one took a second to console him in his last moment, no one held his hand.”
He was scheduled to be at work that day at McDonald’s at 4:30 p.m., but never arrived.
Police have said they do not believe Freeman was the intended target and no suspects have been identified.
According to the Go Fund Me post, he leaves behind his mother, father, grandmother and six siblings.
He had goals of going to college as a student athlete.
