No one was hurt in a Wednesday morning fire at a downtown apartment complex, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 8:22 a.m. at Riverside One condominiums, located on Riverfront Way near the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

“The Knoxville Police Department arrived just prior to the arrival of the fire department and reported smoke coming from the end building, and they were beginning to attempt to evacuate the building,” said Assistant Chief Mark Wilbanks of the Knoxville Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze less than ten minutes after the initial call to E-911, according to Wilbanks.

“The unit received heavy damage to the front of the unit. The unit below the fire unit received moderate water damage from firefighting water…. The fire unit was under renovation and no one was present at the time of the report of the fire,” he said.

KFD investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire.
