Two arrested, one still wanted for Lay Avenue shooting


Two people were arrested for allegedly shooting a man in East Knoxville but police were still searching for a third suspect, authorities said Tuesday.

The shooting took place June 24 in the 2700 block of Lay Avenue, according to Knoxville Police Department officials. The victim, identified only as a 35-year-old man, was shot multiple times and remains hospitalized in serious condition. 

Two of the suspects —  36-year-old Eddie Crippen and 33-year-old Jacinda Sharp — were identified by investigators from KPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and taken into custody about 10:45 p.m. Monday, said KPD spokesperson Scott Erland.

“Officers found Crippen and Sharp at the Weigel’s at 3815 Western Avenue and took them into custody without issue after receiving a FLOCK alert that their car was in the area,” Erland explained. “Crippen was taken into custody on outstanding warrants for attempted first degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Sharp was arrested on an outstanding warrant for attempted first degree murder.”

An arrest warrant has also been issued for Martanya Styles, 29, charging her with for attempted first-degree murder, he said.
